HHO: Introduce yourself to the fans:
Just Listen: What’s up! I go by Just Listen. I’m a multifaceted artist from Kentucky living in Atlanta, GA!
HHO: How did your artist name come about?
Just Listen: The name Just Listen came about when I first started rapping and I actually didn’t have an artist name. When I first started recording music a friend that would show others would always tell them to “Just Listen” when they asked who it was. Then I realized the uniqueness of the name and made it my own.
HHO: Where are you from?
Just Listen: I’m from the small town of Richmond, Kentucky. At the age of 5 my mother and I moved to Columbia, South Carolina where I really grew up.
HHO: Who were your musical influences growing up?
Just Listen: My musical influences growing up were a variety of rappers and singers. Ranging from Biggie Smalls, Mase, Usher, J Cole, Chris Brown, Drake, 50 Cent, No Limit, Gucci Mane ect.
HHO: What hip-hop albums did you grow up listening to?
Just Listen: Living in a single parent household my mother always played R&B albums which kind of forced me to listen to a lot of early 2000’s artist and soak in the singing aspect of music. I listened to J Cole a lot throughout my teenage years. Born Sinner, 2014 Forest Hills, and even earlier mixtapes kept my interest in lyricism and actually talking about subjects.
HHO: What is the current single/project that you are promoting?
Just Listen: Right now I am promoting my newest single Renegade which is exclusively available on iTunes!
HHO: How did the record come about?
Just Listen: I booked a studio session without a thought in mind for this record. While I was driving to the session I came up with the hook in my head. As soon as I got in the booth I laid the hook and the rest was history!
HHO: What would be your dream collaboration with any rapper or producer?
Just Listen: My dream collab would be with Drake, Don Tolliver, Biggie, or Brent Faiyaz. As for the producers I would like to work with Dr. Dre, Scott Storch, Hit Boy, or Pharrell.
HHO: Are you currently touring or have any upcoming shows?
Just Listen: Due to COVID-19 we don’t have any upcoming shows or tours.
HHO: How is the response from your fans & djs been?
Just Listen: The response from the fans is amazing! They always support my art and aren’t afraid to show the world that they are fans! I’m always in close contact with many Dj’s, sending them records before I release them so I can get a honest opinion from the ones that are actually spinning the records in the club! It’s always good news!
HHO: What artists do you listen to the most?
Just Listen: I listen to a lot of artist but at the moment I would say I listen to a lot of Drake, Don Tolliver, Brent Faiyaz, Tory Lanez and Fivio Foreign.
HHO: What are your plans for 2020? What are you doing that others are not?
Just Listen: My plans for 2020 are to have as much content as possible! I want to come out of the year with 200 records and a professional picture for every day of the week. Right now I am still creating as much as I can with the restrictions due to the national shutdown. A lot of people are resting when they should be using this free time to create! That’s what’s most important in this industry.
HHO: How can your fans reach you?
