Fokie Dope – Pack LeaderPOSTED ON:
Aug 01 2020
HHO: Introduce yourself to the fans
Fokie Dope: What’s up everybody. My name is Fokie Dope. The next rap superhero.
HHO: How did your artist name come about?
Fokie Dope: My Crew hated my rap name…it used to be Focus Montana Max. So everyone just called me Fokie for short. It sort of just worked. (Laughs) I added the Dope at the end because I thought it was jiggy
HHO: Where are you from?
Fokie Dope: I’m from Detroit, MI….. I grew up in the 6 mile and John R area. A few years back I relocated to Charlotte, NC….I figured if I stayed in Detroit it would kill me eventually.
HHO: Who were your musical influences growing up?
Fokie Dope: Well it’s hard for me to answer that to be real. Everything influenced me growing up. I mean it’s the obvious answers like, Jay, Nas, and all the legends from that era but honestly my music is influenced pretty much by anything that I’m impressed by. I love movies, sports, comic books and video games too and they all influence my work. My project Raised by Wolves came about because I was binging John Carpenter movies and I got inspired by his art. I grew up with my father…we lived in the hood but he had a huge sound system and he played everything from rap to heavy metal. So I’m Familiar with pretty much everyone and have a huge respect for music in general. I used to grab a remote and pretend it was a microphone… I used to pretend I made those songs I heard growing up.
HHO: What hip-hop albums did you grow up listening to?
Fokie Dope: I grew up listening to reasonable doubt, Iillmatic,
400 degrees, BE by common, State vs. Radic Davis, Blue Print, Stillmatic, We are the streets, Speaker Box/ The love below How Fly, Pilot Talk 1, 2, and 3…Kush and Orange Juice…and that’s just to name a few…I used to study these albums. First time I heard Illmatic I was like 16 and the first time I heard reasonable doubt I was 17…I think those are the best rap albums ever created.
HHO: What is the current single/project that you are promoting?
Fokie Dope: Full Moons featuring my brother by Spirit And label mate Heff Dalegend…I also dropped “Raised By Wolves” as well in May…that’s the rap project of the year you guys should go check it out.
HHO: How did the record come about?
Fokie Dope: Well I’m starting to buzz a little bit so I just needed to put out a record…it was actually just me on it at first and Heff was in the studio when I laid the choirs and the verse. By the time I finished my verse he had his verse done…I think this might be a really big record for me.
HHO: What would be your dream collaboration with any rapper or producer?
Fokie Dope: So it’s more of a goal and not a dream but I really want a song with Jay, Nas and Gucci all on the same record. I have an idea of what that would sound like. I also would love to be the person to do a track with push and drake on the same record…I think that would be monumental but I’m not holding my breath for that one (laughs)…I feel like since Nas and Jay are semi retired from rap the game has belong to five dudes…six now if you include Lil Baby… but that’s Kendrick, Cole, Push, Drake and Childish…..I feel like overall they represent what Nas and Jay were back then…..it’s a shame to see the greats beef.
HHO: Are you currently touring or have any upcoming shows?
Fokie Dope: I’m not currently touring because of the COVID thing but I’ve been offered a few shows in Europe by a few booking companies. So we are working that out right now.
HHO: How is the response from your fans & djs been?
Fokie Dope: I don’t really have fans I more so have a pack. These people listen to everything I drop and they look at everything I post. Last year I was getting 50 likes 1 comment and no streams now I’m averaging 40,000 streams a month…and that’s all because of the DJs and my pack. I want to thank all of them and any future listeners that might come on the ride with me. (Laughs) that was the long way to say my fans and the DJs are loving everything I do right now.
HHO: What artists do you listen to the most?
Fokie Dope: (Laughs) I will keep it hip hop. Kendrick, Drake, Cole, Push, Joey Bada$$, Rhapsody, Lil Baby, 42 Dugg…lots of Griselda and I been bumping Bodie James, Ms. Mulatto, and Sada Baby all year….I just got onto The sauce twinz because of Sada, they dumb hard….shout out to 99 neighbors, Ametria Periodt and Neisha Neshae too…they all on they come up too and I’m a big fan of all their music
HHO: What are your plans for 2020? What are you doing that others are not?
Fokie Dope: My plan is to fully establish myself as a recording artist. Get my blue check and start touring around the world…we will see how the rest of the year plays out but I’ve had a really good year so far. I’m not letting up. What I do that is different from others I’d say is acknowledge the fact that I’m a fan of music and I want to leave it in a better position than I found it. I don’t want to do none of that fake rapper shit and act like I’m not in love with this shit cuz I am. I try to interact with everybody that spins my music because they didn’t have to spin my shit so I try to show mad love. And since we on the subject of fake rapper shit I thought this would be a good platform to apologize to Lil Yachty…I Told myself once I get to a platform where he might see this I would apologize about the dig I sent him on my project. That was some fake shit and I was hating that he was successful and I wasn’t. He’s a good rapper and I been listening to his music since he dropped From the D to the A with grizzly. Felt real dumb after that. Even if he wasn’t talented it’s still not my place.
HHO: How can your fans reach you?
Fokie Dope: fokiedope.com will take you to all my music and merch and things like that.
HHO: Any last words or shout outs?
Fokie Dope: Shout out to the whole gang…Calest, Neka, Prop, Sy, Class, Bri, Dex, Celeste, Kae, Art, Heff, Aspen, Indigo Jo, Wi$e, Slim, Free and Exile. That’s the pack….we will make y’all proud of hip-hop again.
